Blue Scholars
when i was listening to songs about getting hyphy and crunk 2 years ago, this was made. makes me ashamed i haven't heard of them until now.
so who are they? blue scholars, they're a play on words based off of "blue collars" speaking of the struggles of the people. this duo of two young men, Geological and Sabzi from University of Washington have such heart-felt lyrics. their music videos are quite beautifully made as well so please don't stop here.

Stages of Civilization
I was thinking about this randomly the other day, and I thought I'd share with some people and see what they think. It's a bit more serious than what you're used to me posting, but I think it's an interesting bit of perspective:
Taken from http://hubpages.com/hub/Stages-of-
How Long Does USA Have? About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."
"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage"
At which stage in this sequence do you believe our great nation is currently in? At which stage?

I saw your post Edi, and it reminded me of this vid. I saw this a while back and it was a literal ROFLMAO. Enjoy.
Star Trek
Hikaru Sulu
yes you can believe it, i'm blogging about hikaru sulu from star trek. if you're anything like me, when you go check out movies and see an asian person you say," OH SNAP! ASIAN!!!" or at least you're thinking it and it probably makes you excited to see them represent (go john cho!!!).
well ton and i headed over to the woodbridge dollar theatre (which is actually $2 for a movie. >;O) and we both agreed to watch star trek again because he's a trekkie and i honestly think it's a great plot. well hopefully most of you have seen it, and if not... what are you waiting for! but did you ever realize that during yellow suited john cho's aka hikaru sulu's fight scene that he woops out a foldable sword and starts doing some flips while kicking a$s? hmm. i thought to myself, don't you have a gun sulu and wouldn't it be easier to use it?
after thinking about it i decided to look up what kind of character sulu is supposed to be portrayed as and our trusty wikipedia provided me with some adequate information. the original sulu (george takei) played one of the first asian characters to be "portrayed in a positive light." so sulu represents all of asia despite being half japanese and half filipino and his hobbies include botany, gymnastics, fencing and ancient weaponry. how many people out there can say that ancient weaponry is one of their hobbies?!
anyways let me know what you think about hikaru sulu's character and how he is portrayed in the 2009 star trek movie!
